How to measure and compare
Measure a shirt that fits
Use a similar dress shirt that fits comfortably, rather than a loose or stretchy T-shirt. Button it, lay it flat and smooth it without stretching.
- Shoulders: back facing up, between the top shoulder seams.
- Chest: straight across, just below the armholes.
- Sleeve: from the shoulder seam along the outside to the cuff.
- Back length: down the centre, from the base of the collar seam to the hem.
- Waist: straight across the narrowest part of the shirt body.
Measure your child
Have him stand naturally with his arms relaxed.
- Shoulders: across his upper back, shoulder point to shoulder point.
- Chest: all the way around the fullest part, under his arms. Keep the tape level and snug, not tight. Enter the full number.
Our shirt chest width is doubled for this comparison. The shirt needs extra room around his chest; an equal or smaller circumference may feel tight.
